Common Test fails

Test day do’s and don’t.

    • Do remember to cancel the indicator once pulled up and stopped.
    • Don’t block a driveway or park opposite a junction.
    • Don’t indicate if there is no gap to set off,
    • Do look out for 20 mph zones. Keep your eyes peeled!
    • Stay clam it’s not a race!
    • Stay focused. Don’t dwell on what has happened. That can’t be changed!
    • Take CONTROL of the situation. Do you KNOW the outcome? Or are you simply hoping for the best!
    • Pedestrian crossings, remember if amber light is flashing and ALL pedestrians have crossed, you should proceed.
    • Zebra crossings, be vigilant, look at both sides. Remember, wait for pedestrians to clear the whole crossing before moving on.
    • Traffic lights on green, how long have they been on? Is there a 4th light ( filter)? Did you notice if it’s been and gone? Are the lights likely to go to Amber? How is your speed?

Junctions:

Emerging.

What is your view like ? Do you need to peep and creep? If you do and you see car, what will you do? (stop), hopefully.
Approaching.

Can you see into the Rd? Is it gear 1 or gear 2? Remember, better to be slow, you can always speed up! Are there pedestrians? Could you stop to allow them to cross? Is it safe?

Manoeuvres:

Remember, before moving, always check mirrors and blind spots ( even if you know the car park is as quiet as can be). Still, LOOK AROUND each time before moving. With all Manoeuvres, you can make adjustments if needed, but LOOK first.

Travelling along Dane Rd the examiner may say take the next right. DO NOT try and turn into the car park, it’s no entry and not 1st right!

Ashton village Stop sign, make sure you come to a complete STOP, and count to 3 if necessary or verbalise that you have stopped once you can see in both directions, if you can’t peep and creep, STOP and count to 3

Dito Grosvenor Rd, it’s the long Rd off Glebelands that runs along Ashton Park

Dito Temple Rd Sale Moor, the Rd that goes up by the petrol station

Turning right Washway onto Harboro Rd, difficult. Be aware of passenger side what with traffic going forward on your left side, the island is badly placed the space available is tight but doable, just DONT over steer around island think of my mirror!!!!! Oh yes and like most lights no more than two vehicles turning ( maximum) and if needs be stay BEHIND the bike box.

Altrincham Rd ( from Brooklands) if turning right at the large tram line junction, there are two lanes, try to get into the left lane of the two right turn lanes and keep.good lane discipline when turning, if you accidentally get into the right lane of the two right turn lanes again good lane discipline and be aware you will have to merge as you proceed towards Wythenshawe hospital

Turning right from Floatshall Rd towards Lidl, which way are the cars across the junction going? They often appear quite late as they come from the gym and often don’t indicate! If you have to wait in the junction look how big it is, cross the tramlines, pass the traffic to your right and wait if you have to

When turning right onto the 50mph Rd towards MCR airport. Follow this rule do not enter the box junction (3) stay behind the STOP line (1) and keep an eye on the filter (2) . Now obviously if there is NO traffic all the above does not apply. The problem here is traffic facing you and heading up Princes Parkway often block your progress meaning you can get stuck and photographed in the box junction, oh yes and fined £60

If coming off the parkway from the large roundabout and you have to turn left at the lights and again left at the next lights ( North side of Wythenshawe park) you MUST follow the arrow and cross the cycle lane to turn left ignore the bus stop it is NOT a bus lane. Failure to do.so early will mean you have to go straight on towards Sale Moor as the other lane is AHEAD only

Right turn at M &S washway Rd, you must wait in the yellow box junction if waiting to turn (oncoming traffic preventing) and it should be able to get 2 cars in there, obviously if you are the 2nd car this will be determined by car 1 position! If you are car 3 wait behind the bike box.

Grosvenor Rd stop line, often asked to turn left and the take the first right into Hillington Rd. Watch you don’t cut the corner!

Travelling from Glebelands towards Buck Lane. Can you see round bends? Is anyone already in or approaching the bit where you have to give way? How about slow right down ( gear 1) tuck yourself close to the stop line to your left and look, if good to go crack on and get to the bit where you have the priority!

Notice when travelling back to Sale lane 1 just wiggles to become the centre lane, no indication is needed just follow the lane divider, as you pass Chapel Rd if you stay close to the kerb you are now in a left turn lane and you will have to turn left
